If there is a formula to throw hits, definitely Akshay Kumar has aced it. Akshay Kumar has given his fifth consecutive hit in 20 months. The movie “Toilet : Ek Prem Katha” is inspired by PM Narendra Modi’s “Clean India” campaign that takes on the problem of defection in India. The movie has also gone tax free at some places.
At the crucial time of Bollywood, when it was going dry for several months, Akshay kumar and Bhumi Padnekar starrer “Toilet : Ek Prem Katha” was a much needed hit. The movie was made with the budget of only 18 crores. And it proved to be a blockbuster hit with the collection of 100 crores. Albeitly, the movie got mixed reviews but it maintained to get thumbs up from the audiences and remained steadily at the box office.
The movie was expected to face a competition with the next change of this week’s “Bareilly Ki Burfi”. But it managed to beat Kriti Senon, Ayushmann Khurana and Rajkumar Rao starrer at the box office on this friday. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that the film had crossed the coveted benchmark. “#ToiletEkPremKatha is Akshay Kumar’s 8th Rs. 100 cr grosser….The 2nd highest, after Salman Khan (11 Rs 100 cr grosser). India Biz. #TPEK”.
When Akshay Kumar was asked about the movie he said, “I never make a social film with a lot of commercial material; I make sure that there is a love story. To be honest I remeber the love story than anything else in this (Toilet : ek Prem Katha).” Akshay is coming up with a new project “Padman”. The movie is produced by his wife, Twinkle Khanna. Reports are that Akshay has completed the shooting of this movie in only 30 days. Well, who knows, if Akshay will be making a record in making the movies in less time.
