India is diverse country. It’s not just the language, the cultures and traditions that differ throughout the country, almost every single state in India, one way or the other is known for its food as well. But still there is one such dish that unites the entire nation and almost every family prepares that dish every now and then. The dish we are talking about is ‘Khichadi’.

So the next time you prepare ‘Khichadi’ at your house, you can also feel proud about the fact that India, now holds a Guinness world record of cooking 918 kg Khichdi at the ongoing ‘Word food India 2017’ event being held by Food and Beverage Industry of India.

The event, which was organized to commemorate the Food Processing Industries, witnessed the world record of cooking 918kg khichdi, a traditional multi-grain dish. A 50 member team supervised the night-long preparations of Khichadi and Yoga Guru ‘baba Ramdev’ was present at the event to put the ‘tadka’ as a finishing touch.

Though, the minimum requirement to set the world record was 500 Kg but the celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor and his team superceded the expectations and prepared a colossal quantity of 918 KG.

"We are still waiting for a few pieces of evidence. For the time being, I am happy to announce that this (khichdi) wins the Guinness World title weighing 918kg,” Guinness World Records’ project manager Paulina Sapinska said at the event.

Food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who also lent a hand in cooking, said: “It is a wholesome food as it contains most of the nutrients. It also symbolises the country’s unity in diversity.”
