Navjot Kaur Pays Off Her Father's Sacrifices By Being The First Indian Woman To Win Gold At Asian Wrestling Championships

Navjot Kaur, the daughter of Sukhchain Singh, a farmer from Bagaria Village near Taran Taran Punjab paid off the all the sacrifices that his father made in order to support the training of his daughter. Navjot Kaur, an ace wrestler, made Punjab proud of her by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold in the Senior Asian Championships.

This is to be noted that Navjot’s father had been taking bank loans to fund her training expenses and the debt has run up to Rs.13 Lakh over the years. Navjot Kaur beat Japan’s Miya Imai by 9-1 in a completely one-sided encounter in the women’s 65 kg freestyle category at Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan. “Our happiness knows no bounds. She has made the nation proud. Now, I want her to bring home an Olympic medal”, said Sukhchain Singh in a media report.

While it was a huge moment of pride to see a Punjabi Girl hoist the tricolour on an International stage, it was equally disappointing when no Government official came to receive her at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport, Amritsar today. Navjot Kaur straight away went to Darbar Sahib to pay obeisance where she was honoured by SGPC officials.
