PROMINENT PUNJABI WRESTLER 'SUKHCHAIN SINGH CHEEMA' DIES IN A CAR ACCIDENT, LEAVES WRESTLING COMMUNITY IN A GLOOM

A prominent wrestler, coach and Dronacharya awardee Sukhchain Singh Cheema, who died in a road accident at Patiala bypass Wednesday night has left wrestling fraternity in a gloom with his demise. Born in a family with wrestling heritage, Cheema was the son of Rustum-e-Hind Olympian wrestler Kesar Singh Cheema and father of Rustum-e-Hind Olympian Parwinder Singh Cheema. Sukhchain had won a bronze medal at Tehran Asian Games in 1974.

Cheema was training at least 60 wrestlers in National Institute of Sports in the city. As per reports, his car collided with another car at around 7 pm on Wednesday at Patiala Sangrur by-pass. He was immediately rushed to a hospital but could not be saved.

Punjabi singer Honey Singh paid homage to this distinguished sportsperson and quoted, “R.I.P Rustam-E-Hind Sukhchain Singh Cheema Uncle ji Such a great Personality and a great Human being and an idol for a lot of sportsmen , Ehna da Ghata taan poora nahi ho sakda par parmatma saare pariwaar nu bhaana manan da bal bhakhshe Waheguru ohna nu apne charna ch niwas dewe.”
