‘Prem naam he mera, prem chopra’ , this cult dialogue which has now become the identification of great bollywood baddie Prem Chopra once made men hide their wives from him. Hailed as Hindi Cinema’s most iconic villain, Prem Chopra who was born on 23rd September 1935 in Lahore celebrates his 82nd birthday today .
Credited for reshaping the image of a villain in Hindi cinema, Prem Chopra wanted to play Hero initially. His first break came through a Punjabi movie titled ‘Chaudhary Karnail Singh’ in 1960 which was a love story based on India-Pakistan partition and was a huge success.
Such was his influence on public in general that people actually used to believe that he was as vicious and evil in real life as he was portrayed on screen but rather than feeling bad about it he always took that as a compliment.
After playing villain for a span of 50 years, Prem Chopra changed tracks and played some positive roles which have been equally appreciated by his fans across the country.
