Gulzar is the most talented and respected writer of the Bollywood Industry. It was Gulzar’s 83rd birthday yesterday that turned out to be a special day for his fans. What would be a more better day to announce the release of his unreleased movie “Libaas”. “Libaas” was made in 1988, was disregarded in the archives of the Directorate of Film Festivals. “Libaas” was shown at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on 22 November, 2014, that was after the gap of 26 years. Earlier it was also screened at the International Film Festival at Banglore in January, 1992. Undoubtedly, the movie got acknowledgement of merit and was appreciated during the screening, but it never got released in India.
This Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi starrer film is based on a short story “Seema” from Gulzar’s Raavi Paar collection. The movie also stars Raj Babbar, Sushma Seth, Utpal Dutt, Annu Kapoor and Savita Bajaj. The movie was produced by Vikas Mohan. But as if now the movie will be brought in theaters by his sons Amul Mohan and Anshul Mohan. Taking to the media, Amul Mohan said, “I’m lucky to be part of this project.
It couldn’t be released at that time for some reason”. He further added, “This was my father’s life-long dream and I’m happy it’s finally coming true. The film will be in theaters by the end of this year. We will announce the release date in a few weeks, after further discussion.” The music of the film has been composed by Gulzar’s one of the favourites, R.D. Burman. Gulzar always wanted to bring this movie on big screen. He wanted that people should have the taste of different flavour than the ones they are used to of. Soon the movie will be in multiplexes.
