Biopic On Udham Singh, Who Avenged Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, Releasing October 2, 2020

Shoojit Sircar’s much awaited biopic on a freedom fighter from Punjab, Udham Singh finally has a release date. Titled ‘Sardar Udham Singh’, the film will release on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi October 2 in 2020. The biopic features Vicky Kaushal as Udham Singh.

Shaheed Udham Singh was a well-known freedom fighter from Punjab. Udham Singh belonged to Ghadar party and was best known for the assassinating Michael O' Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab in India. Dwyer's assassination on March 13, 1940, was carried out as a revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919.

Singh was subsequently tried and convicted of murder and hanged in July 1940.

Well-known film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his official Twitter handle to share the details. He shared few stills from the sets of the film and captioned it as: “Release date finalized: 2 Oct 2020... Vicky Kaushal in and as #SardarUdhamSingh... Directed by Shoojit Sircar... Written by Ritesh Shah and Shubendu Bhattacharya... Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.”

Earlier, Shoojit Sircar said that the tale of freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh’s struggle and sacrifice is a very important story for today’s audiences.

“Udham’s struggle and sacrifice is a very important story for today’s audiences to be made aware of, and I have collaborated with my esteemed writers Riteish Shah and Shubendu Bhattacharya, along with my friend and producer Ronnie Lahiri once again for this humble tribute to the maverick freedom fighter and his story,” Sircar quoted by IANS as saying.
