Punjabi singer Jasbir Singh Bains, known by his stage Jasbir Jassi has been appointed as a National Icon by the Election Commission of India. Jasbir’s music has been recognised by having great mass appeal which cuts across diverse age groups and especially to young voters.
Motivational songs and message by Jassi has definitely helped the commission in its endeavour to encourage prospective voters to enrol and maximise electoral participation.
Meanwhile, the Commission is confident enough that Jassi’s contribution will go a long way in enhancing the informed and ethical participation of voters in country’s forthcoming elections.
Jasbir Jassi started recording for Punjabi films including ‘Passport’ and ‘Zakhmi’ in the late 1980s. The title song Dil Le Gayee Kudi Gujarat Di of his second album was a commercial success while Kudi Kudi from his third album and Channo Da from Nishani Pyar Di also did extremely well.
