  • Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was born on Vaisakh Vadi 5, (5 Vaisakh), Bikrami Samvat 1678, in the holy city of Amritsar to Guru Hargobind Singh ji, the sixth Guru of Sikhs and Mata Nanaki ji.
  • Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was born as Tyaga Mal. The name Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was given to him by Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.

  • During his life, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji took several pilgrimages around the country to strengthen the roots of the religion by establishing new preaching centers and renewing old ones. The places he visited and stayed in, became sites of worship.
  • Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji created about 115 poetic hymns which can all be found in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism.
  • Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji had learnt classical, vocal and instrumental music. He was also trained in horsemanship, swordsmanship, javelin throwing and shooting.

  • The ninth guru was married to Mata Gujri Ji on September 14, 1632.
  • He resisted the conversion of Kashmiri pundits and non-Muslims to Islam during the Mughal era in the 17th century.
  • He is also considered to be the first human rights activist of India.
  • Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was the father of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who later went to become the tenth Sikh guru.
  • Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life in order to stop the forcible conversion of Hindus to Muslims. In 1675 Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was executed in Delhi on November 11 under the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
