Popular Hindi and Punjabi actor Jimmy Sheirgill is one of the most versatile artists of the industry. The actor was born on December 3, 1970 in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. As the ‘Mel Karade Rabba’ actor celebrates his birthday today, we bring you some lesser known facts about him.
Jimmy was born as Jasjit Singh Gill to a Punjabi Jatt Sikh family in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
After completing his schooling, graduation, and post-graduation from Punjab, he moved to Mumbai to try his luck in the film industry.
Jimmy went to Mumbai after a cousin convinced him to try his luck in the film industry. And, there he attended Roshan Taneja’s acting classes.
The actor stepped into the acting industry with the 1996 Hindi thriller film ‘Maachis’. Even though the film did commercially well, his performance didn’t gain much fame.
He had his breakthrough moment with the 2000 release ‘Mohabbatein’.
Later on, he stepped into the Punjabi film industry with the 2005 release ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’, which did well at the box office.
Jimmy Sheirgill changed the spelling of his surname from ‘Shergill’ to ‘Sheirgill’ because the name ‘Jimmy Shergill’ was already taken on social media.
The actor married his long time girlfriend Priyanka in 2001, and has a son named Veer.
