Nirmal Rishi is a Punjabi film actress who is known for her supporting role in films like ‘Long Da Lishkara’, ‘Love Punjab’, ‘Mela’ among other hit movies. The actress is celebrating her 76th birthday today on August 27. She was born in the Mansa district of Bhatinda in Punjab in 1943.
Nirmal is one of the most versatile actresses of the Punjabi film industry, having done more than 70 films in the film fraternity. Here are some lesser known facts about her, on her birthday.
Nirmal Rishi was born to Sarpanch Baldev Krishan Rishi and Bachni Devi on August 27 in a village in the Mansa district.
She was interested in acting, sports, drama, and bhangra since her school days. She took professional acting training from Patiala.
Nirmal became a physical education instructor at the age of 26. She worked there for 34 years and retired in 2003.
Even though she was working as a physical education instructor in a college, she was connected to her passion and kept performing theatre.
She has also been awarded with the Punjab Arts Council Awards for her contribution to the Punjabi theatre.
In the year 2012, she won the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award given to her by President Pranab Mukherjee.
She was also honoured with PTC lifetime achievement award in the year 2017.
