Wearing turban is a mandatory part of Sikh religion. They consider turban or dastaar as an important part of the unique Sikh identity. Sikh men consider it improper to show their hair in public. But many a time they break the religious protocol by removing their turbans in public to utlise it in saving someone’s life. Here we are listing 5 such instances in which a turban was being used to save someone’s life. Manjeet Singh - 20-year-old Sikh man from Dewar area in Tral, used his turban as an instant Band-Aid to save the life of a 45-year-old woman who was lying bleeding after being hit by a truck near Awantipora area of Srinagar.

According to the media reports, the woman was left with serious leg injuries after she was hit by a truck that speeded away leaving her abandoned on the middle of the road. When no one came to her rescue, Manjeet then rescued her by using his turban to stop blood loss. Avtar Hothi  - A farmer in Canada turned overnight hero after he saved a teenage girl from drowning by using his turban to pull her out of a frigid river. publive-image Avtar Hothi and his son were working at their farm in Heffley Creek when they heard someone shouting for help. They rushed to the riverbank to see a young woman struggling to stay afloat in the strong current. Hothi then removed his turban to pull out the 14-year-old girl. Sarwan Singh – This man unwound his turban to save a drowning dog. In a video available on YouTube, Sarwan Singh is seen using his turban to pull out a dog out of a canal somewhere in Punjab. Harman Singh – This man used his turban to save a life of 5-year-old child in New Zealand. According to the media reports, the 5-year-old was on his way to school when he was hit by a speeding car. Without thinking much, Harman Singh used his turban as a band aid to stop bleeding from boy’s head.

Satnam Singh – This Sikh from Ludhiana should the courage after he used his turban to save a life of a man who was drowning. According to the reports, Satish Kumar was immersing offerings in the Sidhwan canal on the occasion of Ashtami when he slipped and fell into the canal. Satnam Singh, who was crossing the bridge, halted to help him from drowning in speeding water.
