Inderpal Singh Batra: This Nature Lover Has Built 200 Nests, Feeding 2500 Sparrows Everyday Since 2001

Born and brought up in Varanasi, Inderpal Singh Batra, has built a home for more than 2500 sparrows in his home. With the support of his family, he has been doing this for more than 18 years now, after noticing the change in the number of sparrows due to the climate change.

While in conversation with PTC Punjabi over the phone, he said "I started feeding the sparrows of his colonies and soon after the birds knew where to go to fill their stomachs."

Starting with 10-15 sparrows, he has now provided home to thousands of them. He has not built a natural habitat to sustain the lives of the birds, but is providing them food and place to them, considering the condition of the environment.

Inderpal brought a clay pot, drilled a hole in his house, and filled it with some twigs to make a nest for the birds. Today, he has around 200 nests at his home.

Apart from Inderpal Batra, his family also takes care with him. "My daughter Amrita Batra considers the birds as her family. She is very attached to the sparrows living in her home and similarly the birds loving being taken care by Amrita."

Over the years, the neighbours have also started keeping water and food outside their home for the birds and tourists from south India come to visit his home. The tourists love to see the natural setting in Inderpal’s house for birds.
