Iran Hijab protest: Priyanka Chopra supports Iranian women, says 'I stand with you'

Iran Hijab protest news: Amid the ongoing Hijab protest in Iran, Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra has come out in support of the Iranian women who have been protesting over the death of Mahsa Amini.

Notably, Mahsa Amini was arrested on September 13 while she was leaving a Tehran metro station with her brother and her relatives. Reportedly, she was arrested for allegedly breaching strict rules on wearing hijab headscarves and modest clothing.

As per the reports, Mahsa Amini was in a coma for three days and died later "of natural causes," the authorities claimed. However, the activists claim that the cause of her death was a fatal blow to the head.

Soon after Mahsa Amini's death, thousands of Iranians took to the streets over the last two weeks and have been protesting the death of Mahsa Amini.

Likewise, women from across the globe have shown solidarity with the Iranian women's plight in protest by cutting or shaving their hair in public.

In the meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra extended her support to Iranian women on social media. Taking to Instagram, she penned a note that reads, "Women in Iran and around the world are standing up and raising their voices, publicly cutting their hair and many other forms of protest for Mahsa Amini, whose young life was taken away so brutally by the Iranian Morality Police for wearing her hijab 'improperly'."

"The voices that speak after ages of forced silence, will rightfully burst like a volcano! And they will not and MUST not be stemmed," she added.

She further wrote: "I am in awe of your courage and your purpose. It is not easy to risk your life, literally, to challenge the patriarchal establishment and fight for your rights. But, you are courageous women doing this every day regardless of the cost to yourselves."
