Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story was to be released today but now the movie has been facing objections for the usage of ‘Kaur’ in its title. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has opposed the use of ‘Kaur’ in the title of Sunny Leone’s upcoming biopic. The reports say that DSGMC’s general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa has objected the usage of Kaur, which is used as a surname given to Sikh girls and women by Guru.
Sirsa said, “To use it for publicity stunt and depict the porn life of a celebrity is derogatory for Sikhs across the world”. He warned that it the title of the biopic is not changed then DSGMC will be forced to take its protest to the office of film’s producer and they can also take a stern action against the team associated with Sunny Leone’s biopic.
Earlier, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had demanded an apology from the actor for using Kaur. Bibi Jagir Kaur, the president of Istri Akali Dal also demanded immediate withdrawal of Kaur from the title and use Leone instead. It is stated by the Sikh group that since Sunny does not follow the teachings of Sikh Gurus, she should not use Kaur in the title of her upcoming web series as it might hurt sentiments of religious.
