LATA MANGESHKAR CELEBRATES HER 88TH BIRTHDAY

They say she has a magical throat. India’s best known and respected playback singer Lata Mangeshkar is celebrating her 88th birthday today and wishes are pouring in from all across the country from the likes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sachin tendulkar and other bigwigs from the bollywood and music industry. Recipient of innumerable prestigious awards including three National awards, 12 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards and Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the Government of India in 1989. She has also been bestowed with the Bhart Ratna in 2001.

Lata Mangeshkar was enlisted in The Guinness Book of Records in 1974 for recording not less than 25,000 solo, duet and chorus backed songs in 20 Indian languages" between 1948 and 1974. The claim however, was later contested by Mohammad Rafi who claimed he had sung around 28,000 songs.

Lata Mangeshkar started her singing career in 1942 with a Marathi film titled ‘Kiti Hasaal’ has sung in over 36 regional Indian languages and foreign languages, primarily in Marathi and Hindi.
