The government of India has planned to honour the Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar with the title of the ‘Daughter Of The Nation’. Lata will be conferred the title on her 90th birthday this year on September 28.

The queen of melody is being honoured with the title as a tribute to her contribution to Indian film music over 7 decades.

According to the reports published in leading news websites, Poet-lyricist Prasoon Joshi has written a special song for the occasion. “Modiji is a very big fan of Lataji’s voice. She represents the collective voice of the Indian nation. Honouring her is to honour the daughter of the nation and that’s what we will officially designate her on her 90th birthday,” an informed source from the government said.

She has been awarded with the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1989 by the Government of India. In 2001, in recognition of her contributions to the nation, she was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. France conferred on her its highest civilian award (Officer of the Legion of Honour) in 2007.
