Lung Cancer Awareness Month: Symptoms, Treatment, And Prevention Of Lung Cancer

Moment you talk of Cancer, it sends a shiver down your spine. Creating awareness about this deadly disease is the only way to minimize its incidence.  According to a survey conducted by the Punjab government, the State has become the cancer capital of the country. The survey revealed that Punjab has a higher incidence of cancer than other States.

It further revealed that there are at least 90 cancer patients for every 100,000 people. The data of total deaths worldwide caused by cancer each year is as follows:

Lung  – 1,370,000

Stomach – 736,000

Liver  – 695,000

Colorectal  – 608,000

Breast – 458,000

Cervical  – 275,000

Lung cancer claims more lives each year than stomach, breast, cervical and colorectal cancers. Lungs are two spongy organs in a human body that take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. People who smoke are at a greater risk of lung cancer than those who do not smoke. If a person quits smoking, it significantly reduces the chances of developing lung cancer.

According to doctors working at Capitol Hospital, Jalandhar, “90% of Lung cancer cases are estimated to happen because of smoking.”
