Meet 93-Year-Old Baba Iqbal Singh: He Has Set Up 129 Low-Cost Schools Across North India

93-year-old Baba Iqbal Singh Ji is considered to be one of the most influential Sikhs in the world. He is the only living Sikh who has been conferred with the title of Shiromani Panth Ratan.

Baba Iqbal Singh Ji received the honorary title of Shiromani Panth Ratan by Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh Khalsa at Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib on 8th July 2018.

Shiromani Panth Ratan is a title of highest honour awarded by one of the Takhts to an individual for the exceptional and meritorious services rendered to the Sikh cause.

Besides, Baba Iqbal Singh Ji is popularly known for setting up over 120 low-cost schools across North India including in Punjab.

After retiring from his job as a Director of Agriculture (HP) in 1987, Baba Iqbal Singh Ji moved to Baru Sahib and he started one-room school with only 5 students. Gradually the number of students increased and he is now running 129 Akal Academies (Schools following CBSE Curriculum) under The Kalgidhar Trust.

Besides, he is credited with setting up of two full-fledged Multi-Disciplinary state of art Private Universities benefitting around 60000 rural students.

His aim of setting low-cost schools is to imparting value based education to children from marginalized communities and to put an end to menace of drugs and alcohol abuse in rural North India.

For his selfless service, Baba Iqbal Singh Ji received the Sikh Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
