A Saturday evening at Welcome ITC Hotel, Dwarka saw the best of crowd gathered together along with a panel of judges to pick out Mrs. India women of substance from over 43 enthusiastic contestants. Having participants from all over the country, most of the women were homemakers, mothers, professionals and entrepreneurs apart from being gorgeous and confident.   The show was compared by Mr. Aman Verma, who looked as dashing as he did during his big TV soap days. The panel of judges included Mrs. Pammi Kaul, Dr. Prerna, Dr. Sharad, Mr. Shishir, Mrs. Aditi, actress Mahima Choudhary and the reigning queen 2018 Mrs. AmanPreet. While 22 contestants were upto the age of 39, the rest 21 contestants were called the “Classics” and were within an age bracket of 50 years. The show had various rounds and 3 winners were selected from the Classic category and 4 winners from the younger category, as there was a tie between two who were standing for one title. publive-image The show began with an introductory round where all the contestants walked the ramp in scintillating red dresses and spoke a few lines about themselves. The second round had them dressing up, depending on which state they belonged to. This was followed by a round in which women walked the ramp, showing oomph and grace wearing evening gowns. Based on these three rounds, 22 out of 42 contestants were shortlisted. The next round judged the beauties on the basis of how witty they could get with their answers for questions asked on the spot, with each judge taking turns to ask questions. The next round was to give subtitles to each contestant based on her beauty, personality, skill set and profession. The last and final round was to ask questions from the finalists and take a public poll on the winners. mrs india 2019 The eldest contestant from among the classic group, Mrs. Sona Pungavkar stole the show. 48 years of age, and with a skill set like none other she spoke confidently and walked the ramp with double the conviction. Age no bar when it comes to beauty and brains together, proved this Mrs. India woman of Substance. One of the most well read and successful contestants, her emerald green gown created an envious flutter. From professional achievements to swoon worthy looks and many many feathers in her cap, Sona surely knows how to live life king size and excel in everything she steps in. A Gujarati married to a Marathi, she lives in Mumbai where she works as a Neuro-radiologist and has 23 years of experience under her belt. She runs a clinic with her radiologist husband, and has pioneered many imaging techniques in the country. A keynote speaker in several conventions, she has also authored several chapters in many medical books. She loves to spend quality time with family, apart from striking a perfect balance between work and personal life. She strongly believes in giving back to the society and hence, has started an NGO ‘Raksha’ that supports education for the girl child and uplifts the underprivileged girls and works on the grassroot level to change the societies perception and empower the girls. As she says “Tough times never last, but tough people do” and believes in staying happy and transforming one’s mind to believe that nothing is unachievable.
