Next Showing At PTC Box Office: Azaab

In 1947, the new sunrise of independence were surrounded by dark clouds of partition. Across the Indian subcontinent, communities that had coexisted for almost a millennium attacked each other in a terrifying outbreak of sectarian violence. Azaab is a heart wrenching story set in this period. Jumma and his wife Saidan has seen a lot in this span of bloodshed, has lost a lot in this brutal during this migration in Indian history.

Jumma and Saidan were leading their life in deep pain. In every breath of their life they could not accept the harsh reality how their daughter was raped and killed brutally by few people of other community. Not only Jumma and Saidan their son Nanku also holds hatred in his heart against the community. That is why he looted lot of Hindu and Sikhs families and use to arrange his bread and butter.

One day, during the simmering fire of partition someone knocks the door of Jumma in panic. Jumma opens the door and see Raj is standing with his wife and sister carrying few luggage. Raj begs to Jumma to give him shelter for a night as he had escaped from Muslims who were trying to rape his sister and wife.

Jumma allows them to get inside. Jumma’s wife Saidan could not get over the wound given by other community, could not hold over her anger and asks them to leave. Raj begs, plead to her for one night stay but Saidan was not ready to even listen to them. Jumma agrees to give them shelter as once upon has time Raj’s family have done a lot for Jumm’s family.

Finally Saidan agrees with cold heart but she warns that if their son Nanku gets to know about them, he will not sapre anyone. So Jumma hides them in a room in the house. When Nanku comes he gets to know about them. Looking at them he keeps bad eye on the girls. He demands that they will be allowed to live only then if he will be allowed to marry Raj’s sister Amrita. Listening to this Raj becomes aggressive. He revolts. Surprisingly Saidan also supports Nanku and tells Raj that he can give away her wife Amrita to Nanku, if not Rani, the sister. Raj becomes stunned. He is helpless.

What happens next? Did Raj sacrifice his sister or his wife? Or Raj was thrown out of house? Azaab is an interesting piece of cinema with power packed performance by Dolly Ahluwalia and kamal Tiwari.
