Punjab Mail: Know Some Interesting Facts About Shamshad Begum

In today’s episode of ‘Punjab Mail’, the audience will get to know some interesting facts about the life of one of the first Indian playback singers, Shamshad Begum, in Hindi film industry. The show will air exclusively on PTC Punjabi at 8 PM.

She has given voice for popular movies like ‘Mother India’, ‘Deedar’, ‘Mughal-E-Azam’ among other movies. Born on April 14, 1919, in Lahore, she belonged to a conservative Muslim family.

Shamshad Begum had been associated with renowned Bollywood singers like ‘Naushad Ali’, ‘S.D. Burman’, Lata Mangeshkar’, ‘Asha Bhonsle’ among other singers.

Some of the popular songs by the legendary singer are ‘Leke Pahla Pahla Pyar’, ‘Teri Mehfil Mein’, ‘Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar’, ‘Kajra Mohabbat Wala’ among many other hit songs.

While her old songs still remain popular, she breathed her last at the age of 94 in 2013.
