Popular for his roles in movies like ‘Dharti Ke Lal’, ‘Do Bigha Zameen’, ‘Garam Hawa’ among others, Balraj Sahni was a popular Bollywood actor. Born in Punjab, British India in 1913, the actor worked from 1946 to 1973. PTC Punjabi’s show ‘Punjab Mail’ will give an insight on the facts of Balraj’s life on its next episode on May 13. Born on May 1, Balraj was a gifted writer. He was always interested in acting and started his career with theatre. He made his debut with the movie ‘Insaaf’ in 1946. But it was in ‘Do Bigha Zameen’ in 1953, that his true strength was recognized. Balraj’s early writings were in English, though he later switched to Punjabi and became a writer of repute in Punjabi literature. He also dabbed in screenwriting. He was also a recipient of Padma Shri Award in 1969. Balraj Sahni died on 13 April 1973 of a massive cardiac arrest, less than a month before his 60th birthday.
