Bheed, a social drama starring Rajkummar Rao, was released on Thursday by filmmaker Anubhav Sinha.
The 56-year-old filmmaker, who is known for hard-hitting dramas such as Mulk, Article 15, and Thappad, said he had always wanted to work with Rao and that ‘Bheed’ provided the right opportunity. ‘Bheed' is one of those titles that makes the entire team leap when you suggest it. Casting was extremely important to me and Raj is a fascinating performer.
He's one of the rare actors who can make a character completely transparent in a film. The 56-year-old director also expressed his excitement at the thought of rejoining with Bhushan Kumar, who financed his film Thappad, which is set to release in 2020. Sinha has a "unique voice," according to Rao, and he is honored to be a part of his new film.
"I'm ecstatic to be collaborating with Anubhav Sinha. It’s a huge honour and privilege collaborating with a director who has such a distinct voice. Also, following the success of ‘Ludo’ last year, rejoining with Bhushan Kumar feels like returning home," the 37-year-old actor stated.
Rao added that as an actor, he has always gravitated toward stories that spark debate. This is a significant topic, and the character requires that I push myself as an artist to go beyond my comfort zone.
Bheed is expected to start shooting in November and will take place all across Lucknow. The project is jointly produced by Kumar’s T-Series and Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks. Aside from this film, Sinha is currently working on his next directorial project, Anek, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana.
Rao is now filming Hum Do Hamare Do, a comedy-drama starring Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, and Ratna Pathak Shah. On October 29, the film will launch on Disney+ Hotstar.
