Dara Singh is known for his role of 'Hanuman' in 'Ramanand Sagar's' old ramayan which is being telecasted these days on Doordarshan once again. Dara Singh earned huge respect and love for his role in Ramayan. He was born into a sikh Jatt family but his portrayal of role as a Hindu deity won him appreciation from everyone. The decision of telecasting old Ramayan during this lock down has proved fruitful. It was just two episodes before, people cherished the entry of Dara Singh as Hanuman. Born as Deedar Singh Randhawa, he had earned a great name and fame in the industry. Hailing from a village in Amritsar, Dara Singh is also known for his role as 'Daar Ji' in Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor starrer film 'Jab We Met' which happened to be his last film. Later on, from the film 'King Kong' in 1962, he got his first ever role as an actor. He worked with veteran actress Mumtaz in more than fifteen films. Not only this, Dara Singh was the first ever sportsman to be nominated in the Rajya Sabha. He worked in the political arena from the side of Bharatiya Janata Party for a long period of time. Dara Singh died due to heart attack at the age of eighty three in Mumbai. He deserves all the praises for creating an identity in the Film Industry with no filmy background.
