Sushant Singh Rajput drug case: Siddharth Pithani, the actor's roommate who was detained in a narcotics case that made waves after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Monday.
Justice Bharti Dangre issued a bail ruling in the case, requiring a 50,000 rupee personal bond. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained Siddharth on May 28 of last year in connection with the drug case that became public after actor Sushant Singh Rajput passed away.
Siddharth Pithani's initial three bail requests in this case were denied. Following that, Siddharth had petitioned the High Court. In this petition, Pithani's defence claimed that there was insufficient evidence to establish his involvement in illegal narcotics trafficking.
The NCB asserted that there are movies and other pieces of evidence on his laptop and phone at the same time. Also connected to the acquisition of drugs are bank transactions made through Sushant Singh Rajput's accounts.
In addition to other allegations, Pithani was detained under section 27A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which concerns with the unlawful traffic and harbouring of criminals. In this case, Pithani also claimed that Section 27A had been wrongly invoked on him in his bail petition.
In June 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput died. In connection with the same alleged narcotics offence, Rhea Chakraborty, his ex girlfriend, and her brother were also detained. They are both released on bail.
