She mentioned two reasons behind doing the signature 'thaapi'. "First one is pretty obvious. I could not celebrate my graduation without acknowledging the fact that Punjab suffered its greatest loss in a very long time just two weeks ago. My heart is still grieving and I wanted to tell the arena full of 99.99% Americans about Sidhu Moose Wala," she wrote.

"Even if they didn’t get what I was doing. This thaapi, the smallest of gesture, the smallest of tribute I could ever pay to Moosie who did so much for Punjab, was my way of grieving while celebrating the legend that he will always be," she added.

Furthermore, she wrote: "The second reason was that I want to tell the world, anywhere I go, that I come from Punjab. The land of five rivers, the land of ten Gurus, the land of warriors. The land where we celebrate our fallen heroes. I’m a PUNJABI. And I wanted to shout it at the top of my lungs."
