Dia Mirza reacts to Bombay High court's remarks on celebrities charging for Anti-Pollution campaigns
Bollywood actor Dia Mirza has responded to the Bombay High Court's recent remarks about celebrities charging money to take part in anti-pollution awareness campaigns. The court expressed disappointment over celebrities demanding fees for such campaigns and said that public money should not be wasted on paying them. Reacting to the court's statement, Dia clarified that she has never charged money for any public service campaign.
What Did the Bombay High Court Say?
The Bombay High Court recently raised concerns about Mumbai's increasing air pollution and the use of firecrackers during Navratri. During a hearing on Monday, Justice Girish Kulkarni questioned why celebrities should be paid to spread awareness about pollution.

The court stated that celebrities who have earned fame and success from Mumbai should contribute to the city's welfare without expecting payment. Justice Girish Kulkarni said, “If celebrities are not willing to come forward for free, there is no need to approach them. If they charge a fee, it is a completely wrong approach.”
The judge further explained that celebrities have received a lot from the city and should give something back to society. He also made it clear that public money should not be spent on paying celebrities for such campaigns.
Court Suggests Approaching Marathi Actors
During the hearing, the Bombay High Court also suggested that authorities could approach Marathi actors for anti-pollution awareness campaigns. However, the court made it clear that these actors should be willing to participate without charging any fees. The court's main concern was that money collected from the public should be used responsibly, especially when dealing with serious problems such as air pollution.

Dia Mirza Says She Has Never Charged for Public Service Campaigns
Following the court's remarks, Dia Mirza shared her views in an interview with Hindustan Times. The actor clarified that she has never accepted payment for participating in public service campaigns. Dia said, “I have never charged any money for any public service campaigns. No idea who has been paid hefty amounts.”
She also explained that many celebrities are willing to work with the government and social organisations to fight pollution. According to Dia, air pollution is a problem that can be solved if authorities and organisations work together.
She also pointed out that celebrities often face criticism when they speak against the use of firecrackers.
Dia Mirza Talks About Her Efforts to Fight Pollution
Dia Mirza has been actively spreading awareness about environmental issues for more than a decade. She regularly uses social media to inform people about air pollution and ways to protect the environment.
Speaking about her efforts, Dia said, “It is a sustained effort to draw attention to the pollution and solutions.” She also revealed that she shares daily updates about the Air Quality Index (AQI) on her Instagram account to keep people informed about pollution levels.
The actor further mentioned her involvement with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which has been working to support efforts to reduce air pollution.

Dia Mirza Points Out Lack of Coordination Between Government Agencies
Apart from discussing the role of celebrities, Dia Mirza also highlighted another major problem in tackling air pollution. She stated, “The problem is government agencies don't coordinate and work together.” According to Dia, better coordination between government departments is important to control pollution effectively.
While the Bombay High Court has urged celebrities to support awareness campaigns without charging money, Dia Mirza has made it clear that she has already been contributing to environmental causes without accepting payment.
The issue has once again brought attention to Mumbai's growing pollution problem and the need for celebrities, government authorities and citizens to work together to protect the environment.
