Tupac Shakur murder trial latest update: Mob James testifies in court nearly after 30 years of his death

Nearly 30 years after the death of popular rapper Tupac Shakur, his murder case is now being heard in court. The trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis has started in Las Vegas, bringing new attention to one of the most talked-about murder cases in music history.

Duane Davis Faces Trial

Davis, 63, is the only person charged in connection with Tupac’s 1996 murder. He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say Davis was involved in planning the attack after a fight between Tupac’s group and Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Tupac was later shot in a drive-by attack while riding in a car with Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight. Davis has not been accused of being the person who pulled the trigger. However, prosecutors say he helped organize the shooting and was involved with the gun used in the attack.

Suge Knight’s Connection to the Latest Development

Suge Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records, is also connected to the latest developments in Tupac Shakur’s murder trial. Knight was driving the BMW when Tupac was shot in Las Vegas in 1996. The trial has brought renewed focus on the gang rivalry and tensions between people linked to Death Row and the South Side Compton Crips. Former Death Row associate James “Mob James” McDonald recently testified but refused to provide information that could implicate Duane “Keffe D” Davis. Knight is among the potential witnesses in the case, although reports say he does not want to testify.

Davis’ Old Statements Become Important Evidence

One of the main parts of the prosecution’s case is Davis’ own statements from the past. Prosecutors have presented a recording from 2008 in which Davis discussed events connected to Tupac’s death.

His 2019 memoir and other public comments are also being used in court. Prosecutors say these statements show that Davis was in the vehicle involved in the shooting and had provided the gun. The defense, however, says Davis’ earlier claims should not be trusted. His lawyers argue that he exaggerated his role and made statements to gain attention.

Former Death Row Associate Refuses to Implicate Davis

One of the latest developments in the trial came from James “Mob James” McDonald, a former Death Row associate. McDonald was called to testify but repeatedly refused to give information that could connect Davis to the murder. The court treated him as a hostile witness. During the proceedings, McDonald told the court, “I’m not gonna send him to prison. You are.” His testimony became one of the notable moments of the early trial.

Tupac’s Final Moments Discussed in Court

The court has also heard testimony about Tupac’s final moments after he was shot. Former Las Vegas police officer Garry Dale said he was with Tupac in the ambulance and asked him who was responsible. According to Dale, Tupac replied, “No, we’ll take care of it.” Forensic pathologist Dr. Lisa Gavin has also testified about Tupac’s injuries. Jurors were shown autopsy photographs as details about the rapper’s fatal gunshot wounds were discussed.

Trial Continues

The trial is still underway in Las Vegas, and prosecutors are expected to present more witnesses and evidence. Davis’ defense team will also have an opportunity to challenge the prosecution’s claims.

Tupac Shakur was only 25 when he was fatally shot in September 1996. Nearly three decades later, the ongoing trial could reveal more information about what happened on the night of his death and whether prosecutors can prove their case against Davis.
