'Barbie' enters billion dollar box office; Greta Gerwig’s movie became first movie solely directed by woman to achieve such milestone

After seventeen days of Greta Gerwig's pink lala land, Barbie's theatrical release, the fantasy creation made history by entering into the billion dollar catalogue, making it's director Greta Gerwig as the first ever solo woman to achieve such a marvelous milestone. Interestingly it is also the fastest Warner Bros. creation to join the $ 1 billion club.

Billion Dollar masterpiece

Barbie's miraculous success was not sort of very unexpected, the marketing campaigns it possessed was a clear sing for it's box office smash. Production designer, Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer brought Gerwig’s idiosyncratic vision for Barbie into a plastic perfect world, which is interestingly the most attracted and eye-glittering feature in the movie. Talking about it's box office collection, the magical pink land has grossed $459 million in North America including $572 million internationally, surpassing it's billion dollar mark.

The phenomenal record

As mentioned earlier, Barbie became the first movie solely directed by a woman to enter into the list. Previously three other movies, co-directed by women also hit the billion dollar mark that includes, 'Frozen'($1.3 billion) co-directed by Jennifer Lee, 'Frozen 2'($1.45 billion) by Chris Buck and 'Captain Marvel' ($1.1 billion), co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck respectively. The Gerwig movie even surpassed the wizardry masterpiece, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2' is garnering $ 1 billion as it crossed the mark after 19 days unlike 'Barbie' in 17.

Ever since it's release on July 21, 2023, it has started breaking records in no time.  The movie smashed the domestic debut in US by grossing over $ 155 million within it's first week of release. All thanks to it's phenomenal marketing campaign and a stellar team that has brought things to life.

The starry 'Barbie'

'Barbie' revolves around the stereotypical Barbie and Ken played by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the lady who made it to the Oscar nomination with her movies such as 'Lady Bird' and 'Little Women', the movie was co-written by Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach. Starring an immaculate casts, the movie won't serve you the children's Barbie, in short, expect more lime from the pink masterpiece if you're planning to watch the movie in the further days. Apart from Margot and Ryan, the movie also stars Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Dua Lipa, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Helen Mirren, John Cena and Will Ferrell are in some significant roles.
