Vijay Varma to Headline Gripping Series 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack' on Netflix; Trailer Releases
Renowned actor Vijay Varma is set to star in the highly anticipated series "IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack," a gripping tale that promises to captivate audiences. This project boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, Anupam Tripathi, Kumud Mishra, and Manoj Pahwa. Scheduled for release on Netflix on August 29, the series has already generated considerable buzz with the unveiling of its teaser on Saturday.
According to the makers, "IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack" is a six-episode series that plunges viewers into the harrowing experience of passengers and crew trapped at 30,000 feet. With each moment laden with tension, the narrative follows a determined team in India as they race against time to decode the hijackers' demands and strive to ensure the safe return of everyone on board.
The series is based on the real-life hijacking of IC-814 by five terrorists on December 24, 1999. The aircraft, carrying about 180 passengers, was hijacked 40 minutes after taking off from Kathmandu. It remained hostage for seven days, traveling from Kathmandu to Amritsar, then to Lahore for refueling, before heading to Dubai. Ultimately, the plane reached Taliban-controlled Kandahar, where all passengers were released on December 31, 2000.
In addition to "IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack," Vijay Varma will also be seen in the upcoming crime drama series "Matka King." Set in 1960s Mumbai, "Matka King" tells the fictional story of an ambitious cotton trader who seeks legitimacy and respect by introducing a new gambling game called 'Matka'. This game quickly becomes a city-wide sensation, democratizing a realm previously dominated by the rich and elite.
The series features a stellar cast, including Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Gulshan Grover, and Siddharth Jadhav in pivotal roles.
