The Oscars 2022 shortlist includes Vidya Balan's Sherni and Vicky Kaushal's Sardar Udham

The selection process for India's official entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars in 2022 has officially started.

Members of the jury in Kolkata are screening a total of 14 films in order to choose a winner. As per the reports, the shortlisted films include Vidya Balan's Sherni and Vicky Kaushal's Sardar Udham.

In Sherni, Vidya Balan plays a forest officer attempting to resolve man-animal conflicts. As a forest officer, she must led a group of trackers and locals in order to capture an unsettled tigress while overcoming intense natural and man-made obstacles and pressures.

The film was directed by Amit Masurkar and starred Sharat Saxena, Mukul Chaddha, Vijay Raaz, Ila Arun, Brijendra Kala, and Neeraj Kabi in pivotal roles.

On the other hand, Sardar Udham, starring Vicky Kaushal the film delves deep into the legendary Indian revolutionary, Sardar Udham Singh's, boundless courage to avenge the death of his countrymen, in an event that shook the British Empire. The film focuses on Sardar Udham Singh's unwavering mission to avenge the deaths of his beloved brethren in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Other films on the shortlist include Martin Prakkat's Malayalam film 'Nayattu,' written and directed by Madonne Ashwin, and Madonne Ashwin's Tamil satire 'Mandela.'
