Rani Mukerji Opens Up About Heartbreaking Miscarriage During 2020 Pregnancy

In a recent heartfelt revelation at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, renowned actor Rani Mukerji opened up about a deeply personal tragedy she faced before filming her latest movie, "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway," which hit the screens in March 2023. She disclosed that she experienced the loss of her baby five months into her second pregnancy during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With a tone of empathy and understanding, Rani Mukerji explained her decision not to share this personal experience during the film's promotion. She recognized that, in today's world, many aspects of one's life are often discussed publicly, sometimes as a promotional strategy for films. However, she didn't want her story to be perceived as a tactic to boost the film's attention.

The year was 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic had just begun to impact the world. Rani became pregnant with her second child at the end of that year, but tragically, she lost her baby five months into the pregnancy. It was a devastating experience that left her grieving.

Interestingly, it was during this time of personal loss that Nikhil Advani, one of the producers of 'Mrs Chatterjee VS Norway,' reached out to her. He shared the film's story with her, and Rani Mukerji found an unexpected connection. While she acknowledged that one doesn't need to experience such a loss to feel the emotions portrayed in the movie, the timing of the film's narrative aligned with what she was going through personally. She expressed her disbelief at the events depicted in the movie, as she never imagined that an Indian family would face such circumstances in a country like Norway.

Reflecting on her family, Rani shared an earlier experience with her first child, Adira. Born two months premature, Adira had to be kept in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to her delicate health condition. This revelation came during a conversation with Kareena Kapoor on the show "What Women Want."

"Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway" is a poignant film in which Rani Mukerji portrays the role of a mother fighting against the state to protect her children. The movie, based on Sagarika Chakaraborty's book "The Journey of a Mother," was directed by Ashima Chibber and featured talented actors such as Neena Gupta, Jim Sarbh, and Anirban Bhattacharya. The film highlights a compelling and emotional journey, making it a significant project in Rani Mukerji's illustrious career.
