'72 Hoorain' honest movie review; A fictional crime with an unpleasant execution! What went terribly wrong in the movie?

Two criminals were brainwashed with the believe in the disbelief of getting served by 72 hoorain(72 virgins) in the heaven if they bomb themselves and take away lives. Although, the movie was just more than a hour in length, it felt forever. The storyline starts turning boring ever since the two criminals die and there is no hoorain as they were promised!

Directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, '72 Hoorain' is a new criminal-dark-humor Hindi movie released on July 7, 2023. The story of the movie is indeed captivating with some interesting mind boggling crime scenes but something has went terribly wrong in the 1 hour 20 minute movie! Was it the characters, the screenplay or the overall execution? Let's know in the review below.

A yawning storyline

Okay, At the beginning I thought I would not complain with this movie at-least as the trailer seemed promising enough with a storyline never seen before. The black-and-white theme, the 'hoorain' storyline along with an alleged belief to commit crime has made me watch the movie but I took no time to regret it! The movie revolves around two criminals Bilal and Hakim who are made to believe the goodness of committing crime. The film is set around Mumbai and it's iconic epitome 'Gateway of India' amid which the two individuals are recruited to be the suicide bombers in the iconic monument and kill people. They were brainwashed with the believe in the disbelief of getting served by 72 hoorain (72 virgins) in the heaven if they bomb themselves and take away lives.

Why it turned out so boring

The thought of bringing such a new taste was not awful, I agree! But what about the execution viewer actually awaits for? Although, the movie was just more than a hour in length, it felt forever. The storyline starts turning boring ever since the two criminals die and there is no hoorain as they were promised! The dark themed story in-fact turns out to be somehow sarcastic and emotionless! When a movie that is made with gory visuals and mass killing becomes funny instead of sticking to it's sour emotional taste, it looses spark. That's when i knew it is nothing but a mere disaster!

Honest yet Brutal review

The movie lacked many elements! The planning did not came out successfully as the makers anticipated. The whole black & white theme movie, shabby VFX, and loosely packed elements bored me throughout the zero-emotion squeezed movie. I must warn you for the faint hearted souls out there as the visuals of the movie might not allow you to eat for days, as it is full of over the top gory scenes and unpleasant bloodsheds. Apart from that, the movie entirely revolves around the two dead souls who now shall wander around the lanes of the very city they bombed.  Their expectation of getting welcomed through the heaven's doorway by 72 hoorain went into dismissal and after death they feels grief and guilt. That is it!

My Final Verdict

To be honest the characters of 'Bilal' and 'Hakim' played by Aamir Bashir and Pravan Malhotra did a little justice to save the 'not-so well executed' film. Pranav Malhotra as Hakim plays the dreaded criminal character including his good catch in dialogues throw was impactful. Aamir Bashir as Bilal got a much worthy character arc with more sweeping emotions. While their acting was an ace-full performance, the screenplay left crumbs.
