The original film, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, released in 2001, captivated audiences with its powerful love story set against India's struggle for independence. In the meantime, a promo from The Kapil Sharma Show was released in which the 'Gadar 2' cast was seen having a gala time. 


Gadar 2 takes the narrative forward, delving into the trials and tribulations faced during the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. During a recent appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Sunny Deol candidly expressed his nervousness about the film, recalling how the industry initially rejected its predecessor.

Sunny said in Punjabi, "There is exhilaration but there is also nervousness. Everyone in the industry was excited when the movie came out at that time. However, everyone simply altered as a result of how the audiences responded. Archana Puran Singh was stunned by Sunny's statement, and the studio crowd cheered him on with thunderous applause.

Gadar's Re-release and Initial Challenges

Gadar: On June 9, Ek Prem Katha received a second chance to be seen, and audiences gathered to see Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's portrayals of Tara Singh and Sakeena's enduring love tale. In addition, Sunny Deol's riveting, action-packed performance was featured in the movie. Sunny candidly revealed the initial opposition Gadar encountered within the Bollywood industry at a gathering where he interacted with fans. Due to the film's Punjabi dialogues, distributors were hesitant to buy it, recommending that it be dubbed into Hindi for a bigger audience.

Sunny Deol's Remarks on Bollywood's Opposition

"Jab Gadar – Ek Prem Katha lagi, tab humein nahin pata tha ki yeh film gadar machayegi," Sunny Deol shared. "People used to say, 'Yeh Punjabi film hai. Isse Hindi mein dub karo'. Some distributors even said, 'Main toh nahin kharidunga yeh film'. So, we faced numerous obstacles. However, the audience loved the film so much that they silenced everyone! They are the ones who have given us the courage to make a sequel," he added.
