Veteran Bollywood actor Rajesh Sharma is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata after developing a serious infection. While initial reports claimed that the actor was hospitalised due to a severe insect bite during the shooting of Prabhas-starrer Fauji, sources have clarified that these claims are not entirely accurate.

Health Complications Linked to Diabetes

According to sources, Sharma was admitted to the hospital because of health complications related to diabetes. The actor reportedly developed a severe infection in his leg, which required immediate medical attention. Although there were reports of a suspected insect bite during the film's shoot at Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City, the infection is believed to have worsened due to his existing medical condition.

Initially, the issue did not appear serious, and Sharma did not seek treatment right away. However, nearly six hours later, he started experiencing severe pain in his right leg and felt unwell. Despite his condition, he travelled back to Kolkata, where his health deteriorated further during the flight. He developed a high fever and was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria the next day.

Family Shares Medical Update

In a statement, Sharma's family, quoting Dr. Avijit Bhattacharya, said the infection has spread from his toes to his knee, with large blisters forming on the affected leg. The doctors have stated that it is too early to predict his recovery, and the actor remains under close observation.

Medical experts are also monitoring him for possible complications, including the risk of a blood clot that could become life-threatening if it reaches the lungs.

AICWA Demands Investigation

Following the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the matter. The association questioned whether proper emergency medical facilities and workplace safety protocols were available on the Fauji set and why Sharma was not immediately admitted to a leading hospital in Hyderabad.

Support Pours In

Sharma's family thanked the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists' Forum, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, friends, and well-wishers for their support during this difficult time. Vetaran actor Rajesh Sharma is well known for his films M.S. Dhoni, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, No One Killed Jessica. Fans across the country are hoping for the veteran actor's speedy recovery.
