Why Dia Mirza is facing backlash after sharing son Avyaan's interaction with delivery executive over plastic?
Actor Dia Mirza faces social media backlash after sharing how her son Avyaan questioned a delivery executive over plastic packaging during a recent podcast.
Actor Dia Mirza is facing criticism on social media after sharing a story about her five-year-old son, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi, during a podcast with Soha Ali Khan. The conversation was about climate change and reducing plastic waste, but one incident involving a delivery executive has sparked a heated debate online.
What Did Dia Mirza Share?During the podcast, Dia spoke about her dislike for coconuts being delivered in plastic bags with plastic straws. She recalled an incident when a coconut delivery executive arrived at her home with the packaging.
According to Dia, her son Avyaan answered the door and immediately pointed out that plastic was not allowed in their home. She said he politely but firmly told the delivery worker to remove the coconuts from the plastic bag, place them outside, and take the plastic bag and straw back with him.
Reacting to the story, Soha Ali Khan praised the young boy's confidence. She said it was impressive to see a child speak to an adult with such conviction about protecting the environment.
Imagine talking so rudely and with such entitlement to someone who’s literally providing you a service in 40 degree centigrade😭
The entitlement is unreal - it blinds them to basic respect and decency.
If you don’t plastic just go to the thela and buy it yourself and carry it… pic.twitter.com/DUVpukfnAH
However, the story did not go down well with many social media users. Several people felt that the delivery executive, who was simply doing his job, should not have been questioned in that manner. Many called the interaction rude and said it reflected a sense of entitlement.
Some users commented that if someone wants to completely avoid plastic, they should personally buy items from local vendors instead of expecting delivery workers to change the packaging.
Others also questioned the practicality of avoiding plastic altogether. They pointed out that cosmetics, packaged products, and many everyday essentials often come in plastic containers. A few users also claimed that celebrities promote products with plastic packaging while speaking against plastic use, calling the message inconsistent.
Debate Over Environmental AwarenessThe incident has triggered mixed reactions online. While many support Dia Mirza's efforts to encourage sustainable living and reduce plastic waste, others believe that environmental awareness should be promoted without putting the responsibility on workers who have little control over packaging. Dia Mirza married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in 2021, and the couple welcomed their son, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi, later that year.
About Work frontDia Mirza will be next seen in Ikka a Netflix courtroom series which also stars Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, and Tillotma Shome. The series will be premiered on July 10 on Netflix.
