The sudden removal of Satluj (formerly Punjab '95) from Zee5 just two days after its OTT release has brought renewed attention to the film and to the actor behind its most terrifying character. Suvinder Vicky, who portrays the ruthless SSP Surjit Singh Sugga, has earned widespread praise for his intense performance. But long before he became one of India's most respected character actors, Vicky was working as an insurance agent, proving that it's never too late to chase a dream.

Who is Suvinder Vicky?

Born as Savinderpal Vicky in 1973 in Sirsa, Haryana, Suvinder Vicky's path to cinema was anything but conventional. Before making a name for himself in films and web series, he worked as an insurance agent while pursuing his passion for acting. He later earned a Master's degree in Theatre and Television from Punjabi University, Patiala, sharpening the craft that would eventually transform his career.

From selling insurance policies to delivering award-worthy performances, Suvinder's journey is a reminder that dreams don't come with an expiry date. Today, he is known for bringing depth and authenticity to some of the most powerful characters on screen.

Man behind SSP Surjit Singh Sugga

In Satluj, Suvinder Vicky plays SSP Surjit Singh Sugga, a trigger-happy and corrupt police officer inspired by a real-life figure from Punjab's insurgency era. The character serves as the film's principal antagonist, standing in direct opposition to Jaswant Singh Khalra, portrayed by Diljit Dosanjh.

Rather than relying on loud outbursts, Vicky creates an atmosphere of fear through restraint, making Sugga one of the film's most haunting characters.

Working with Diljit Dosanjh

Reflecting on the shoot, Suvinder described Diljit as "a true artist" who remained deeply immersed in his character throughout filming. The two actors rarely engaged in casual conversations on set, choosing instead to stay in character between takes.

Vicky praised Diljit's professionalism and supportive nature, saying his commitment to the role was evident every day on set.

Most challenging scene wasn't the climax

Surprisingly, Suvinder revealed that the most difficult sequence to film was the now-famous "saag scene." The challenge, he explained, was conveying fear through silence rather than violence. Director Honey Trehan carefully crafted the scene so that the intimidation came from subtle dialogue and body language, making it one of the film's most impactful moments.

Why has Satluj been removed?

After years of delays and censorship hurdles, Satluj finally premiered on Zee5 but was removed in India within just two days, sparking fresh controversy.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has since protested against the decision, demanding that restrictions on the film be lifted. The organisation argues that the movie tells the story of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and raises important questions about a significant chapter in Punjab's history.
