Who is Teghbir Singh? Meet the 7-year-old Punjab boy who created history by scaling 6,111-metre Mount Yunam

Teghbir Singh, a seven-year-old boy from Ropar in Punjab, has achieved a remarkable milestone in mountaineering. At the age of 7 years and 10 months, he successfully reached the summit of Mount Yunam, a 6,111-metre-high peak in Himachal Pradesh’s Zanskar Range, on July 13, 2026. With the climb, Teghbir has been recognised as the youngest person to successfully summit a mountain above 6,000 metres. The achievement is another significant milestone in his young mountaineering journey, which includes climbing Mount Elbrus and Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as completing the 235-km Annapurna Circuit trek in Nepal.

Who is Teghbir Singh? Record-Breaking Mount Yunam Climb

Teghbir reached the summit of Mount Yunam on July 13, 2026, after beginning his expedition on July 7. The climb was far from easy. He had to face freezing temperatures, strong winds, difficult mountain terrain and low oxygen levels at high altitude.

He reached the summit at around 2:50 pm after nearly nine hours of trekking. His achievement surpassed the earlier record associated with Mumbai’s Kaamya Karthikeyan, who climbed a 6,000-plus-metre peak at the age of 9 years and 11 months.

Teghbir completed the expedition with his father, Sukhinderdeep Singh, while receiving specialised training from retired coach Bikramjit Singh Ghuman.

Six Months Of Training And Preparation

Teghbir’s record-breaking climb was supported by months of disciplined preparation. He trained for nearly six months, working on cardiovascular fitness, lung capacity, stamina and the ability to adjust to high-altitude conditions. The expedition also included several days of acclimatisation at the base camp. Teghbir then stayed in mountain tents in freezing conditions before making the final climb to the summit.

His family also played an important role in his preparation. His mother, Dr Manpreet Kaur, said that maintaining a disciplined diet was an important part of his training and expedition.

Annapurna Circuit Was Another Major Milestone

Mount Yunam was not Teghbir’s first major mountaineering achievement. Earlier in 2026, he completed the challenging 235-km Annapurna Circuit trek in Nepal. At the age of seven, he became the world’s youngest person to complete the trek.

The long trek gave him valuable experience of walking for extended periods and dealing with high-altitude conditions. It also became an important part of his preparation for the Mount Yunam expedition.

He Scaled Mount Elbrus At Six

Teghbir had already made headlines in 2025 when, at the age of 6 years and 7 months, he became the youngest person to scale Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak. For this achievement, he received the Punjab State Award.

His mountaineering journey had begun even earlier. In August 2024, Teghbir became the youngest Asian to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. The achievement earned him recognition in both the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.

Everest Base Camp At Just Five

In April 2024, when Teghbir was only 5 years and 7 months old, he reached Everest Base Camp in Nepal. This became one of the early highlights of his growing mountaineering journey. His achievements have also brought recognition beyond the world of adventure sports. In July 2025, Teghbir was honoured at the Akal Takht for bringing pride to the Sikh community.

Young Boy With Big Achievements

Teghbir Singh’s journey is remarkable because of his age and the difficult challenges he has already faced. From reaching Everest Base Camp at five to climbing Mount Elbrus, Mount Kilimanjaro and completing the Annapurna Circuit, he has steadily added new milestones to his record. His successful Mount Yunam climb is now the biggest achievement in his young career, showing how training, discipline, determination and family support can help a young adventurer take on extraordinary challenges.
