The trailer of Ishqnama, starring Shehnaaz Gill and Jay Randhawa, has finally been unveiled, offering audiences a glimpse into an emotional love story inspired by real events. Set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan border, the film promises a heartfelt tale of love, sacrifice, and separation. Directed by Arvvindr S. Khaira in his feature film debut, Ishqnama is scheduled to release worldwide on July 24, 2026.
Love Story Inspired by Real EventsWhat makes Ishqnama stand out is that it is based on a true story. The film takes inspiration from Hind-Pak Bordernama, an autobiography-cum-novel written by Nirmal Singh Nimma Langah. The book recounts Nimma's extraordinary romance with Nasima Beghum, a Pakistani woman he fell in love with during the early 1980s.
Nimma, who belongs to Langah village in Punjab's Gurdaspur district near the India-Pakistan border, documented how love crossed political boundaries and survived against impossible odds. The trailer captures the emotional depth of this remarkable relationship while highlighting the human side of life along the border.
Romance That Defied BordersAccording to Nimma's account, his relationship with Nasima began in 1981. Determined to keep their love alive, he crossed the international border several times to meet her despite the dangers involved. Nasima also reportedly travelled into East Punjab and Delhi through the same route, making their relationship one built on courage and trust.
Their love story continued for nearly two and a half years before tragedy struck. Nimma was arrested by Pakistani security agencies, bringing their meetings to an abrupt halt. Although he managed to visit Pakistan again in 1986 for one final meeting with Nasima, the installation of border fencing in 1988 ended any hope of them seeing each other again.
Shehnaaz Gill and Jay Randhawa Lead the Emotional JourneyShehnaaz Gill plays the role of Naseema, a character she has described as one of the most challenging and rewarding performances of her career. She shared that portraying Naseema pushed her beyond her comfort zone and allowed her to experience an old-school romance filled with deep emotions and sacrifice.
Opposite her, Jayy Randhawa steps into the role of Nimma, bringing quiet strength and determination to the character. Their chemistry in the trailer reflects the emotional heart of the film. The supporting cast includes Saurabh Sachdeva, Anjuum Batra, Arvinder Kaur, and Mahabir Bhullar, adding further depth to the story.
Promising Cinematic ExperienceKnown for directing visually striking music videos, Arvvindr S. Khaira makes his feature film debut with Ishqnama, calling it the true story of two people whose love challenged history. Produced by Narinder Singh Rana, Sourabh Rana, Kalpna Rana, and Shehnaaz Gill Production, the film combines romance, history, and emotion into a moving cinematic experience.
Audiences will witness this unforgettable cross-border love story when it arrives in theatres across India, Canada, and the UK on July 24, 2026.
