Sonam Bajwa urges government to inspect dog shelters, says rescued animals deserve care and dignity

Actor Sonam Bajwa has once again spoken about the welfare of stray and rescued dogs. Through her Instagram Story, she expressed deep concern over the condition of rescued dogs living in some animal shelters. The actor said she was saddened after seeing pictures that reportedly showed poor living conditions inside certain shelters. She urged the government and the public to pay more attention to the issue and ensure that rescued animals are treated with care and dignity.

Says rescue should not lead to more suffering

In her Instagram Story, Sonam said many people believe stray dogs can simply be removed from the streets and shifted to shelters. However, she pointed out that this is not enough if the shelters themselves do not provide proper care.

She wrote that she was "heartbroken and horrified" after seeing the images. According to the actor, rescuing an animal should improve its life, not make it suffer even more. She stressed that every rescued dog deserves a safe, clean and caring environment.

Urges government to inspect animal shelters

Sonam appealed to the government and the concerned authorities to carry out regular inspections of animal shelters. She said rescued dogs should receive proper treatment, medical care, food and a dignified place to live.

She also called for greater accountability in the way shelters are managed. According to Sonam, authorities must ensure that rescue centres follow proper animal welfare standards and provide compassionate care to every rescued animal.

Appeals to people to raise their voices

The actor also urged people not to stay silent about the issue. She encouraged citizens to speak up for animals that cannot speak for themselves. Her message highlighted that protecting stray and rescued animals is a shared responsibility and that everyone can help improve their lives.

Not the first time Sonam has raised the issue

This is not the first time Sonam Bajwa has spoken about stray dogs. A few months ago, after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a campaign against stray and dangerous dogs, the actor questioned whether enough shelters and infrastructure were available.

She had asked, "Where are the shelters? Where is the infrastructure?" Sonam had then urged the Punjab government to focus on humane solutions such as building shelters, vaccination drives and sterilisation programmes. She also suggested involving animal welfare NGOs, veterinarians, local authorities and public safety experts to find a balanced solution that protects both people and animals.
