Throwback to when Shah Rukh Khan praised Diljit Dosanjh: Back in 2015, during the promotions of Dilwale, Diljit Dosanjh got the opportunity to interview Shah Rukh Khan for PTC Punjabi. At the time, Diljit was already one of the biggest stars in Punjabi entertainment, with successful films, chart-topping songs, and a loyal fan base. However, he was yet to become the Pan-India and global figure he is today.

The interview has remained memorable because it captured two major stars from different industries sharing mutual respect. More importantly, it featured Shah Rukh Khan openly praising Diljit’s talent and expressing interest in Punjabi cinema.

When Shah Rukh Khan Called Diljit a World-Class Actor

During the conversation, Shah Rukh Khan surprised many fans by revealing that he had watched Diljit’s films and was a genuine admirer of his work. SRK said, “Main aapki films dekh chuka hun, main aapka bahut bada fan hun. Aur aap jo acting karte ho, voh extremely world class hai.” Shah Rukh did not simply praise Diljit’s popularity he specifically appreciated his acting ability, calling it world-class.

At that stage, Punjabi cinema often did not receive the same national attention as Bollywood, so SRK’s recognition helped highlight the growing strength of regional cinema and stars like Diljit.

SRK’s Emotional Connection with Punjabi Culture

When Diljit asked if he would ever produce a Punjabi film under Red Chillies Entertainment, Shah Rukh’s answer reflected a personal connection. He recalled one of the first film shoots he had ever seen as a child, when his mother took him to watch a Punjabi movie being filmed in Haryana. He remembered the songs and the atmosphere even years later.

Shah Rukh also said that legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra had made him “half Punjabi,” referring to the Punjabi warmth, music, and family emotions often seen in Chopra’s films.

His Production Dream for Diljit’s Films

Shah Rukh then clearly said he would love to produce Punjabi films. He added that after watching Diljit’s movies, he felt even more inspired to do so.

He specifically praised Diljit’s successful films like Jatt & Juliet and Sardaar Ji, both of which played a key role in modern Punjabi cinema’s popularity. These films proved that Punjabi movies could combine comedy, romance, music, and commercial success on a large scale.

SRK ended by saying, “Toh humein mauka dena” asking Diljit to give him a chance to be part of that journey.

How Diljit Became a Bollywood Favourite

Soon after, Diljit successfully entered mainstream Hindi cinema. His Bollywood breakthrough with Udta Punjab earned him critical praise. He followed it with commercial successes such as Good Newwz, Soorma, Jogi, Crew, and more.

Unlike many crossover stars, Diljit managed to keep his Punjabi identity strong while winning audiences across India. His humour, screen presence, simplicity, and natural acting style made him stand out in Bollywood.

From Punjabi Star to Global Icon

Today, Diljit Dosanjh is one of the most internationally recognized Indian artists. His global tours, sold-out arena concerts, festival appearances, and growing worldwide fan base have taken Punjabi music to a much wider audience. He represents a new generation of Indian stars who move easily between regional cinema, Bollywood, and the global entertainment market.

Why SRK’s Words Feel Important Today?

Looking back, Shah Rukh Khan’s comments now feel ahead of their time. He recognized Diljit’s talent when he was already a Punjabi superstar but before he became a national and global phenomenon. What seemed like a warm compliment in 2015 now feels like a prediction one superstar identifying another star whose journey was only getting started.
