Actor Shilpa Shinde has made a surprising revelation about her long-standing dispute with the makers of the popular TV show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!. During a recent conversation with comedian Bharti Singh and writer-host Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Shilpa admitted that the sexual harassment complaint she filed against producer Sanjay Kohli in 2016 was false. The actress said she felt compelled to take that step because she believed she had no other way to resolve her contractual dispute with the show's producers.

Why Shilpa Filed the Complaint?

According to Shilpa, the conflict began when she was asked to sign a contract that she felt would severely restrict her professional freedom. She claimed the agreement would have prevented her from working elsewhere and limited her ability to negotiate better pay. Feeling cornered by the situation, she said she chose to file a serious complaint after being told that strong allegations were often required to get an FIR registered. The case was eventually settled, allowing her to leave the show.

Dispute Over Control and Working Conditions

Shilpa explained that the issue was never about wanting to work on other projects but about maintaining control over her career decisions. She alleged that the production team tried to pressure her by accelerating her remaining work schedule. According to the actress, nearly ten episodes worth of scenes were completed in just two days, which added to the tension between both sides during her exit from the show.

Apology to the Producer

One of the most significant parts of Shilpa’s confession was her acknowledgment that the allegations harmed Sanjay Kohli’s reputation. She stated that he was unfairly defamed because of the complaint and publicly admitted for the first time that the allegations were false. Shilpa said that after the settlement, her pending payments were cleared and the dispute was resolved. She also admitted that carrying the burden of a false claim was difficult and that she had always intended to reveal the truth when the opportunity arose.

The actress also criticized television industry bodies and associations, claiming that actors often have limited power in disputes with producers. She alleged that certain organizations sided with producers and could influence an actor’s career prospects. Shilpa questioned how an association meant to represent artists could threaten disciplinary action against an artist, arguing that such systems created an imbalance of power within the industry.

Despite the controversy that surrounded her exit nearly ten years ago, Shilpa returned to Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! in 2025. She revealed that her decision to come back was influenced by the show's writer and shared that she now enjoys a positive relationship with the team. Her return marks a dramatic turnaround in a dispute that once became one of the television industry's most talked-about controversies.
