Bharti Singh apologises for hurting sentiments of Sikh community with ‘beard-moustache’ remark

Bharti Singh ‘beard-moustache’ remark controversy: Bharti Singh is one of the most popular faces in the TV industry and is one of the very few successful female comedians. However, her comedy once again didn’t settle well with the people and as a result, she got heavily criticised by the people of Punjab and this time for her ‘beard-moustache’ remark.

People do admire comedians for spreading smiles and tickling their funny bones. However, sometimes people feel that the comedians cross their limits and hurt religious or communal sentiments with their comments while trying to be funny.

Earlier, several celebrities like Sambhavna Seth, Kiku Sharda and Munawar Faruiqui among others faced trouble for offending a few sections of the society. This time Bharti Singh has also come under the scanner for her ‘beard and moustache’ remark as it ‘hurts’ the sentiments of the Sikh community.

In a recent chat show, Bharti made a few jokes about those having long beards and moustaches. The Sikh community took offence and claimed that the jokes were meant to put them down, and thus, a lot of Punjabi people criticised Bharti for shamming her own hometown.

Apologising for the same controversy, Bharti Singh recorded a video and opened up on the controversy. She said that she was making a remark generally and didn’t mention any community, religion or caste.

She apologised to the Sikh community and mentioned that she would never try to bring down the place where she belongs. She further said that she will always try to make her people proud.
