Anupam Kher reacts to Naseeruddin Shah's 'Clown' remark after old video resurfaces

Veteran actor Anupam Kher has responded after social media users resurfaced a six-year-old video in which Naseeruddin Shah had called him a "clown." Sharing a video on Instagram, Kher claimed that trolls dug up the old clip because they could not find anything else to attack him over.

He said, "Some people didn't like what I said because it didn't fit their agenda... When they had nothing else, they dug up a six-year-old video of Naseeruddin Shah, hoping to damage my reputation."

'I Have Earned Everything Through Hard Work'

Kher said he was not intimidated by the criticism and stressed that his success was built on hard work and values.

He said, "Whatever I have achieved, I have earned through my own hard work. I have risen from the ground up with my values... Keep doing what you want. I will continue to stand by the truth."

Kher Says He and Naseeruddin Shah Have Moved On

Addressing the renewed debate, Kher clarified that there is no bitterness between the two actors anymore. He said they have already met, embraced each other, and continue to respect one another.

He said, "In reality, Naseer and I have met, hugged each other and respect one another."

Why the Old Video Went Viral Again

The controversy resurfaced after a 2020 interview of Naseeruddin Shah began circulating online once again. In the interview, Shah criticised Kher while discussing actors who publicly supported the government.

He had said, "Someone like Anupam Kher is very vocal. I don't think he needs to be taken seriously. He is a clown."

Following those remarks in 2020, Kher had responded by saying Shah had a history of criticising several respected personalities from the film industry and that he had never spoken against Shah before but felt compelled to reply.

Recent Projects

On the work front, Anupam Kher was last seen in Metro... In Dino, while Naseeruddin Shah recently received praise for his performance in Main Vaapas Aaunga. Despite their past public disagreement, Kher says both actors have now moved on with mutual respect.
