Kriti Sanon hits back at critics over Rakshabandhan Ad; says ‘Culture Is in Heart, Not in Neckline’
Actor Kriti Sanon has responded to the criticism she received over her outfit in a jewellery advertisement released around Rakshabandhan. The ad sparked a debate online after some social media users questioned her choice of clothing while celebrating the festival.
Kangana Ranaut also reacted to the advertisement and questioned why Kriti chose to wear a bikini-style outfit while tying a Rakhi. In response, Kriti shared a strong message on Instagram Stories without directly naming Kangana.
Kriti Sanon Speaks About Culture and Clothes
Kriti said that the true meaning of a festival is not decided by the clothes a person wears. According to her, festivals are about emotions, love and the importance of traditions.

Talking about Rakshabandhan, Kriti explained that the festival represents the bond of protection between siblings. She shared that she and her sister tie Rakhi to each other and believe they can protect one another just as a brother would.

She also added a personal touch by saying that she and her sister pray for each other’s health, happiness and long life. Their love and prayers, she said, also include their dogs, whom they consider part of the family.
‘When Will We Stop Telling Women What to Wear?’
Kriti then questioned the mindset of constantly telling women what they should or should not wear.
She pointed out that fashion and ethnic clothing have changed over the years. However, she feels that women are still often judged based on their clothes, with their respect for culture being linked to their appearance.
Ending her note, Kriti wrote, “Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!”
Why Is Kriti Sanon Being Criticised?
The advertisement showed Kriti celebrating the bond of Rakshabandhan. Her outfit became one of the main talking points online, with some users questioning whether the look was suitable for a festival that is traditionally associated with family and siblings.
The criticism grew further after Kriti spoke about including her dogs in the celebrations. In her Instagram note, she said that she and her sister pray for each other’s health, happiness and long life, and that the same love and wishes extend to their dogs because they are also part of the family.
This mention of her pets also attracted mixed reactions. Some people felt that tying a Rakhi to a pet was unnecessary or did not match the traditional meaning of the festival. Others, however, supported Kriti and said that people can celebrate love and family bonds in their own way.

Kangana Ranaut Questions the Advertisement
Earlier, Kangana had criticised the advertisement without mentioning Kriti’s name directly. She said that women today have many fashion choices, from dresses and jeans to sarees, lehengas, bikinis and salwar suits.
Kangana questioned why someone would choose to wear a bikini while tying a Rakhi to a brother when there are so many other styling options available. She also described the advertisement as “intentionally creepy.”
The Ad Sparks an Online Debate
Kriti’s advertisement quickly became a topic of discussion on social media. While some users criticised the outfit and felt it did not suit the occasion, others supported Kriti’s view that clothing should not decide a person’s connection with culture or traditions.
The debate has once again brought attention to the question of how women’s fashion choices are judged, especially when they are connected to festivals and traditional celebrations.
