'I used to put my ear on her chest' says Priyanka Chopra Jonas while talking about Malti Marie's early days in NICU

In a recent interview, Priyanka Chopra discussed the trying time in her life when Malti Marie Chopra Jonas was in danger of dying. The couple's daughter Malti was born prematurely and spent 100 days in the NICU before they were able to take her home.

At the promotion event carpet rolls out by team Citadel in India, she was joined by her co-star Richard Madden as well. Priyanka's daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas was one of the main highlights of her trip to her native country. Malti was born to the actress and her husband through surrogacy in January of last year.

Priyanka has spoken candidly about Malti's "early days" after birth.

According to Priyanka Chopra, it was a "harrowing time" for her. The actress went on to say that Nick Jonas gave her courage. "I distinctly recall him simply holding my shoulders while I pleaded with him to direct me because I was at a loss for words. Simply get in the car with me, he says. We then took a car to the hospital. She was born, and ever since she inhaled her first breath till today, she has always been with one of us.

She stayed in the hospital for around 110 days. said Priyanka

The 'Citadel' actress continues and said that it was not their test as parents but was a test of Malti. She realised very early that she didn’t have the luxury to be scared or weak, because Malti was scared, and Malti was weak…”

While commenting when Priyanka was finally able to bring Malti home, she said, "it was terrifying. Being a NICU parent, you really get used to the monitor. You know your child is alive because you can see their heartbeat. I couldn’t sleep for days, because now suddenly she was home without a monitor. I would keep my ear on her chest, check every few minutes to check if she’s okay. For weeks this went on, till I found a camera that could do it.”
