However, the actress also made headlines for being trolled for the choice of outfits she wore this year too. Over the years, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has become one of the most recognised Indian faces at Cannes, admired for her fashion choices and confident red carpet appearances. But while many praised her latest looks this year, a section of social media users criticised and age-shamed the actress online.
In response, Kangana Ranaut stepped forward to defend Aishwarya and called out the unnecessary negativity surrounding her appearance.
Kangana wrote that fashion and style are forms of self-expression and that no woman should feel pressured to satisfy public expectations. She praised Aishwarya for looking “great” and questioned critics who constantly judge her appearance. According to Kangana, Aishwarya does not need to prove anything to anyone anymore.

She further added that older women deserve to be seen confidently on red carpets and in the public eye. Kangana encouraged people to get used to seeing women embrace their age with pride and elegance.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been associated with L'Oréal Paris for many years and has represented the brand at Cannes since 2003 as a global ambassador. Over the years, she has become one of the most recognised Indian faces at the international film festival.
For her first appearance at Cannes 2026, Aishwarya wore a striking blue sculpted gown designed by Indian designer Amit Aggarwal. The couture outfit, named Luminara, was inspired by the idea of “light in motion” and featured a dramatic mermaid-style silhouette. She completed the look with a sheer dupatta, soft pink-toned makeup, bold red lipstick, and diamond jewellery.

Later during the festival, Aishwarya also appeared in a pink blush gown and a stylish white pantsuit for different events. Her daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, accompanied her to Cannes and impressed many with her elegant red gown at the L’Oréal Paris dinner event.
Despite the criticism online, many fans appreciated Aishwarya’s confidence, grace, and long-standing contribution to India’s presence at Cannes. Kangana Ranaut’s public support also sparked conversations about age-shaming, beauty standards, and the pressure faced by women in the entertainment industry.
