Met Gala 2024: Alia Bhatt looks ethereal as she adds desi charm in a Sabyasachi sari
The day has finally arrived. The day of the Met Gala! 6th of May, 2024 has finally unveiled the most awaited eve of the year and the celebrities surely met the Met Gala fantasy of its timeless theme of 'The Garden of Time.'
Met Gala is one of the most exuberant events of the fashion realm, for more than fashion to be precise, Art! Regarded as the world's most prestigious and glamorous fashion event and social gathering of the global elites, it is an annual fundraising event organized for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in Manhattan. The attendees include dignitaries from the spherical realm of fashion, film, television, music, theater, business, sports, social media, and politics, which is primarily organized by Vogue Magazine, the guest list of which is precisely crocheted by Vogue's Editor in Chief, Anna Wintour.
Unveiling the biggest day of fashion, among the global elites, Indian celebrities rouged the garden theme too. But especially, it was Alia Bhatt who stole the show. The Gangubai actress reached the Vogue event wearing a timeless sari from the house of Sabyasachi and in no time, she made us fall for her look head to toe.
Making a grand entrance at the green-tinted carpet, Alia stole all the cameras on her in a minty green Sabyabasachi sari, which also marked her second appearance at the Met ball. Speaking of her sari, it paid homage to art and eternity standing stagnant with this year's theme 'The Garden of Time' as it was fully embedded with hand-embroidered florals and garden motifs. Taking to her Instagram, Alia Bhatt dropped the pictures on her Gram where she wrote, "It was a call to the Garden of Time - an ode to art and eternity. Timelessness is endless, and we acknowledge that things crafted with time and care, can last forever. In our journey for an Indian interpretation of this universal theme, the outfit took on a life of its own."
Bhatt further proceeded with the details of her look and wrote, "Nothing embodies tradition and innovation like the saree; in the skilled hands of @sabyasachiofficial, this vision found its fullest expression. We looked to the past as a guide for the future, drawing inspiration from the timeless sophistication of Indian nobility. We focused on intricate craftsmanship, incorporating hand embroidery, and precious stones, along with elegant beadwork and fringes, distinctive of the 1920’s fringe style. Our colour palette pays homage to nature’s beauty, echoing the earth, sky, and sea."
Meanwhile, the dazzling sari was hand-crafted by Sabyasachi and was crafted for a whopping 1905 man-hours by 163 craftsmen. The stunning look surely shows-stopping and captured the attention of the masses, both onlookers and cameraman and made everyone go gaga as one couldn't help but gasp on her ethereal charm at the Met event. Meanwhile, her couture sari featured an exaggerated train, hand embroidered with silk floss, beads, sequins, and semi-precious stones, and fringed with glass beads with hand crafted blouse studded with emeralds. Her princessy look was perfectly complemented by a Sabyasachi headpiece and emerald dangling earrings featuring tourmalines, sapphires, emeralds, and old mine cut and brilliant cut EF VVS diamonds.
