Shamita Shetty slams age-shaming trolls, defends her choice to remain unmarried
Shamita Shetty has never been one to conform to societal expectations, especially when it comes to marriage. At 47, the actor remains content with her life choices and has often stated that she does not believe in getting married just for the sake of it. Recently, she addressed online trolls who targeted her age and unmarried status with unsolicited remarks on social media.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Shamita shared a screenshot of a user's comments and used the opportunity to respond directly to the criticism.
One of the comments questioned her appearance and suggested that age had changed her. Responding to the remark, Shamita wrote:

“I want to take this wonderful opportunity to respond to your wonderful comments: ‘Apki age ho gayi hai pehle wali baat nahi rahi (You have grown old now; you are not the same as before)’: Yes, I will look different. Things change with time; it’s the natural way of life. Nothing stays forever, including physical appearance! BUT for my age, I’m healthy, fit, and happy with a grateful heart for all that the almighty has given me… and that’s all that matters to me."
Her response highlighted her acceptance of ageing and her focus on health, happiness and gratitude rather than outward appearances.
Shamita also hit back at comments suggesting she should have married earlier and had children by now. Sharing another remark left by the troll, she wrote:
“‘Agar shaadi time par kar leti to aapke bache aaj bade ho gaye hote (If you had gotten married on time, your children would have grown up by now)’: Toh? Yes, you stated the obvious… so? Aapne shaadi karke kya ukhaad liya hai bhai (What miracle you have cracked after getting married)? Most importantly, why the hell do you follow us single women to age-shame us and inflict us with your patriarchal, cave-man-like, male-centric thought process! Please do me a favour and unfollow me pronto!”

The actor's candid response resonated with many social media users who praised her for speaking out against age-shaming and outdated stereotypes surrounding marriage.
Shamita made her acting debut in the 2000 blockbuster Mohabbatein, which brought her widespread recognition. She later appeared in films such as Zeher (2005), Fareb (2005) and Cash (2007).
After spending several years away from the film industry, she pursued a successful career in interior design before returning to the public eye through reality television. Over the years, she has been a contestant on shows including Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2015), Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 9 (2019), Bigg Boss OTT (2021) and Bigg Boss 15.
A few years ago, Shamita made headlines for her relationship with actor Raqesh Bapat. The two met and developed a connection during Bigg Boss OTT, sparking significant interest among fans. However, in 2022, Shamita announced through social media that they had parted ways and were no longer together.

By publicly responding to the criticism, Shamita has once again reaffirmed her belief that marriage and motherhood are personal choices rather than societal obligations. Her latest remarks underscore her confidence in embracing life on her own terms while challenging age-shaming and patriarchal attitudes.
